Public Speaking – How To Become A More Effective Speaker At A Multi-Speaker Event
Public speaking can be a high-energy career that pays extremely well. If you are speaking at a multi-speaker event you will want to make some small changes that will make your presentation even more effective. Here are some things to consider when speaking at this type of event.
Arrive early, if at all possible, so that you can hear the other speakers as they give their presentations. This will enable you to get a feel for the crowd and to know more about the other speakers.
Walk around the room and see what will work best for you. If there is a stage, you can see which side will be the best for you to enter on, and how the setup will be once you are up on stage speaking.
Ask the coordinator to show you a line-up of the events’ speakers, if you do not already know. It is best to see who you will follow and who will speak after you. This is because the subject matter may be similar, or overlap with what you will be speaking about. It may be awkward if you contradict something that another speaker will cover during their talk.
If you can stay for the entire event you will have the very best perspective possible. You will be able to comment on what other speakers have said and, also, to refer to the emcee of the event. This will make you appear more knowledgeable to your audience.
Ask to speak before lunch, if this is possible. Sometimes people arrive late in the morning and will miss some of what you say. After lunch people get sleepy and miss much of what you are trying to tell them.
Take these things into consideration when speaking at an event with several speakers. Getting pointers from a professional speaker will also help you to be a more effective speaker.
